Award-winning author Joseph D’Antoni continues his Wade Hanna pulse-pounding, black-ops mystery series.

As the Vietnam War concludes an MIT professor, contracted to the NSA, leaks U.S. military secrets to the world. He is now America’s #1 traitor. Abducted by Soviet agents, he and his family are traded to North Vietnam.

Wade Hanna’s partner and lover, Megan Winslow, is forced into a witness protection program run by Army Intelligence. Haunted by PTSD flashbacks of her last mission Megan discovers she is being used as “bait” for another covert operation.

Escaping the witness protection program Megan finds sanctuary with Wade in the deep swamps of Louisiana. Wade is selected to head the mission to capture or terminate the #1 American traitor. To avoid being left behind in the swamp Megan must convince Wade she is fit for the new mission.

Wade’s covert intelligence team infiltrates the guarded jungle monastery where the professor is being held only to find their team is vastly outnumbered and outgunned by the opposition. Planned extraction of the target becomes impossible as Wade’s team faces imminent termination of the entire squad.

Captive Threat The Wade Hanna Series Book 5 edition by Joseph D'Antoni Mystery Thriller Suspense eBooks

Captive Threat by Joseph D'Antoni continues the Wade Hanna series and picks up where the previous novel left off. Wade Hanna is still in Argentina and he needs to finish off what is left of his mission. Meanwhile, his partner and lover, Megan, is being held as a prisoner by Army Intelligence at Area 51. Not only is she dealing with flashbacks and nightmares of her last mission, but she believes she is being placed back in the field as bait so intelligence can capture someone else. Quickly, she escapes and disappears into the Louisiana with Wade. Wade has also been tasked with tracking down a traitor who gave up secrets to the Soviets and is currently being held by the North Vietnamese. Wade must now choose whether or not he will take Megan along on the mission and how he is going to deal with the traitor who is being guarded by a much larger Vietnamese force than Wade could have imagined.
Captive Threat reads like a good addition to a series. I did not read the other books first, so the opening few chapters were a bit confusing for me since I was unfamiliar with the characters and previous events. However, after I got into the story things moved very well and I enjoyed the narrative. The book could use a quick run through with an editor. There are some sentences that read a bit confusing. After rereading them, I know what the author was trying to say but the words did not convey the intended message. I enjoyed the writing style and I look forward to more from this author.

Captive Threat The Wade Hanna Series Book 5 edition by Joseph D'Antoni Mystery Thriller Suspense eBooks Reviews

Black ops-type stories are always interesting and I found that this one grabbed my attention right from the beginning. I confess that I have a bad habit of reading books out of order, so I didn’t really know what I was getting into with this one. But, even without knowing the background, it was an engaging story and the author gave just enough information to make sure readers like me didn’t get lost. The only issue I had with the book was that the dialogue felt a little stilted at times. However, that wasn’t enough to stop me enjoying the characters and the story.
“Captive Threat” is the fifth book in a mystery series called “Wade Hanna” written by Joseph D’Antoni, American writer and award winning author. The plot is really suspenseful and I read it at the edge of my seat. A good point to mention is that it is not predictable at all. Any of the conjectures I made while reading were not right.
Stories about secret operations and missions are a must read for me and “Captive Threat” is one of the kind. Apart from providing an action/ adventure plot and a good description of the characters, the author is very skilled at writing. He understands what he is writing about and this makes a huge difference when writing, it is all more believable and attractive.
I would like to read another title by this author. I would certainly recommend reading this must read to anyone willing to read at the edge of their seats.
Captive Threat is an action packed international thriller. The characters are fleshed out very well. I liked Wade's calm, collected and deeply understanding mind set. I wasn't sure if I liked Megan, she sometimes felt too abrasive when Wade was obviously making effort to maintain their relationship. I wasn't sure if I liked Leo. He was interesting and mysterious. I think I would have understood the character relationships better if I had the previous books. Wade had amazing patience with Megan's nervous breakdown. Not many people are able to handle the distancing and loss of physical initimacy.

The story line was very complex but moved pretty steady with so many different things going on. The author was very descriptive about the intelligence gathering and planning process that went into the mission, not an easy task. That part of the book actually was longer to me than the mission portion. The story ends with the completion of the mission but room for another book with the uncertainty of the future for Wade and Megan. I would recommend this book to anyone who loves espionage, action and thrillers. It is realistic enough that I felt like I could have been reading about a real world situation.
The author covers a lot in "Captive Threat" beginning with the relocation of a CIA agent into the witness protection agency and then moving on to the rescue in Thailand. Joseph D'antoni address PTSD and readers watch as Megan learns to cope with those stressors that continue to plague her. Is she paranoid or are hit men after her? Finally, she contacts her old partner and lover, Wade Hanna, and moves in with him in Louisiana without the FBI or CIA knowing this. Wade does help her through these issues and continues to train with Megan to prepare her for the next mission.

Wade and his teams infiltrate through Cambodia into Thailand with a new mission to rescue an American family, who had been giving away government secrets to the Russians and Chinese. They are being held in an old monastery and held captive by Cambodian soldiers.

What I found difficult from this point on was the planning portion of the mission. It seemed like it went on forever and was redundant later in the story and written unlike the first half of the book. I thought it dragged on and almost stopped reading at that time. I also found the radio procedures and conversations way out in left field. Recipients do not respond with "I hear you loud and clear" every time they are called and then ending the conversation with an "over" instead of "out". The last thing I noticed was the amount of typos and errors within the story. Sentences are missing words or having extra words that should have been deleted during the editing process. I would expect that with the amount of books this author has published, issues of this kind would not be present. Yet, here they are!

All-in-all, I still gave 4 stars to "Captive Threat" because of the creativity and plausibility of the story. Corrections mentioned above are worth an extra star if they can be corrected.
